Rafael Nadal
by MAC

We couldn't let this milestone in Rafa's career go unnoticed. It is an astonishing achievement for a 24 year old. Winning all four major tournaments is a feat only shared by Fred Perry, Donald Budge, Rod Laver, Roy Emerson, Andre Agassi and Roger Federer. Tennis was not part of the Olympics between 1920 and 1988, so only one other player, Andre Agassi, has managed the Golden Slam. This is how Rafa got there.

Roland Garros
It all started here back in 2005 when Rafa won his first major/grand slam. Of course, he has now won this title five times. Right up until 2008, the pundits thought this was probably the only slam he would win.

Wimbledon
In 2008, in what most people believe is the best tennis match ever played, Rafa took his first Wimbledon title. He was the first man since Bjorn Borg, more than twenty years earlier, to complete the "Channel Slam". He repeated this feat in 2010.

Olympic Singles Gold Medal
Later in 2008, Rafa claimed the Olympic gold medal for the men's singles.

Australian Open
At the start of 2009, Rafa became the first man to hold slam titles on three different surfaces simultaneously when he won the Australian Open.

US Open
And now, Rafa has the full set. He is the first man since Rod Laver to win Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open in the same year. Since Laver won his titles on clay and grass, Rafa is the only man ever to do this on three different surfaces.
