Rogers Cup, Toronto 2008

Rafael Nadal

Rafa had little trouble beating Nicolas Kiefer 6-3 6-2 in the final of the Rogers Cup for his 29th straight match win. He leads the ATP with 61 matches won this year against only 7 losses.

So that's
      - 30 titles
      - 12 Masters Shields (one more than Pete Sampras)
      - 7 titles this year (leads the ATP)
      - 5 consecutive titles
      - a major title on three different surfaces this year

¡Enhorabuena Rafa!

Rafael Nadal

Here's what we said last week -
The first tournament in this quest will be the Rogers Cup or, as it is more commonly known in these parts, Masters Series Toronto. Last year Rafa lost in the Semi-Finals to Djokovic, who then went on to defeat Roger Federer in the final.

Points Earned 2007 Breakdown:
Djokovic – (W) 500
Federer – (F) 350
Nadal – (SF) 225

Improvement can be made in Canada. If Rafa can get to the finals against anyone other than Federer he will gain at least 125 points in the race. If he should beat Federer in the final he would gain 275 points.

And now we know that he did better than we could have wished for while the others stuttered.

Points Earned 2008 Breakdown:
Djokovic – (QF) 125 (-375)
Federer – (R32) 5 (-345)
Nadal – (W) 500 (+275)
