The Spanish Vamos Brigade in Madrid
by Reyes

Apart from having LZ and Anke working behind the scenes in Madrid the Vamos Brigade were well represented by Reyes, giulietta, brandy and aiki. Reyes summarized her Madrid blog in English and illustrated it with her own pictures.

Hi!!! OK, let's go. Bad news. We haven't had good luck today. Rafa didn't appear at the hotel... Even though things started in a good way. Just after we arrived we met Feli with Costa. They were waiting for transportation and we went to speak to him. He is so kind and extremely cool...

Sunday 14/10/2007
We arrived at Madrid Arena at about 10am and on the way to the place nexa sent us an SMS: Rafa was scheduled to train in the evening. Bad news. So we arrived too early because the doors would not be opened til 11:30 am. We tried to contact LZ or Anke by mobile phone but we couldn't. So we had to wait for one hour and a half to get in. A lot of people were arriving...

First of all the pics for you to get in touch with the situation:

VB with Rafa

We had arrived at the hotel at about 9:10am and had an appoinment there with giulietta at 9:30, so we arrived early. Both brandy and I had the feeling that something great was going to happen and that today it was going to be the great day! We were nervous and we knew something was going to happen...

We have just arrived home. Murray didn't take a lot of time He is a very good player and Chela didn't realise the match had started. Giulietta has already explained what we have done today. Just after we arrived home we ran to the computer to read the El Pais article. We didn't know anything about the article because at the Arena the only newspapers they have are Marca and ABC...

First of all I want to say I don't like to see me in those pics: it seems I am completely crazy but they were taken just in the moment Rafa was arriving on court. We got in touch with the cameraman (he is our new friend) and he was making us signals to wave the flag in the moment Rafa appears at the main gate, so we did it. We watched ourselves in the screens, oops...

Giulietta always arrived at home before we did, so she always explained our routine. We arrived later once again (but it takes us about 50 minutes from brandy's house to the Arena). We did again the same as everyday since we are here: watch as many matches as possible as well to watch Rafa's trainings...

As usual the same routine. We arrive at the Arena and we ask for the players training schedule. Rafa usually trains about 2 hours and a half before his matches, so as we guess he was scheduled at 1:30 pm at Court Nr 2...

Saturday 20/10/2007
Today we overslept. When we got up at 11 am we read LZ posted that Rafa was scheduled to train from 11 am to 1 pm. The doors opened at 12:30 so if we would be on time there at least we would arrive to watch him training...

VB cheering sad

Sunday 21/10/2007
Today we took a taxi to arrive on time back home in order to watch the Formula 1 race. But my heart doesn't resist more emotions today so while brandy and her family are watching the GP I prefer to tell you about the last day at the Arena. Today we were there on time, even a little before the doors were open. So as we know every place there as our own home, after we collected the press we went to the training courts. And.. a big prize: Rafa and Feli were training there! And what it was even better, they were at Cibeles Court where there are seats...

Monday 22/10/2007
These are my lasts hours here in Madrid. I have just woken up (brandy is still sleeping) because last night (the) party ended at about 6 am! My flight is scheduled at 6 pm and I haveto finish my suitcases... Do you know who arrived yesterday at the volunteers party? Rafael Nadal and David Nalbandian!! Diego Forlan was also there!

Let's go, I think it is time to write a final blog entry because when Rafa doesn't write a goodbye one I'm the first who complains. But the truth is I was very busy since I came back from Madrid: at the office, at home... And above all this to write a last entry means to be aware that all this finished and it's very sad.

I want to thank everybody for the nice words many of you had to this blog...
