A Davis Cup. My Davis Cup. A few years ago, I would have sold my whole family to go to a Davis Cup. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity. I dreamt so many times of a Sweden / Spain tie. Well, too late now... But this time the call of the DC was louder than ever. I took my cheering cow and Rafa’s gift under my arm (Mission of the Week End) and went straight to Rogelioland. Chicos wait for me, I’m coming !!! (Hey, am I not supposed to support my French countrymen ???) Teamspirit, suspense, entertainment… For all these reasons I love tennis. And especially the Davis Cup. Vamos !
Day One: Chaos day.
After many usual transportation troubles, I arrived safe in Rogelioland to meet MAC & Vero. Wawrinka was at the hospital and Rafa was injuried. Nando arrived too late for the first match, so no « siesta » for him today… What the hell was going on here ?! All day long, I had one eye on Rafa and one eye on the court. He did a couple of comings & goings with or without cap, jacket or whatever. (Was he modelling ?) At least, he could be a good Davis Cup captain in the future, he was coaching Nando like crazy !
Spanish bulls : 1 - Swiss cows : 1 – LZ : Happy
Day Two: The crazy doubles.
We thought the doubles would be over very quickly so we could have had a nice walk under the swiss rain. We were dreaming…4h48 later, five sets later (7/6, 6/7, 6/7, 6/1, 12/10) Nando and Feli fell on the court and the bloody-chocolate-eaters-from-hell gave up in the last seconds… I’m proud to be part of this new broken record ! I’m dead, the crazy flagwaver and the Spanish trumpeter also… Arantxa Sanchez has probably crashed her shoes while jumping with the crazy Spaniards… I needed a very strong drink to recover.
Spanish bulls : 2 - Swiss cows : 1- LZ : Out of order
Day Three: Meeting with Rafa.
We had the chance to watch our chicos training late in the morning… The cheering cow was also happy to be there. Albert Costa, Emilio & Arantxa Sanchez, my Old Heroes signed my Nadal Flag.
Nando became the Hero of the week-end, I was convinced that he wouldn’t be able to recover from yesterday’s match but he was just… rafamazing.
We needed one more bloody point to win this tie and YAY, we got it !!! We won !!!
Spanish bulls : 3 - Swiss cows : 2 – LZ : Overhappy
We ran to the Media Center to meet Rafa, this was my last chance to deliver him the VB Cup… And I was successful. In the middle of the parking, freezing in my T-shirt, Rafa’s phone ringing… I saw in his smile that he was touched by the gift and seeing Rafa happy was the greatest reward.
ANOTHER MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
Another strong drink was needed and we ended at the players’ hotel’s bar to celebrate.
Thanx for all the great memories, chicos… I’m heading to Marseille. With you.
